Detailed Review

Shodan is the world first and most comprehensive search engine for internet-connected devices, indexing over 100 million devices across the global internet. Created by John Matherly in 2009, Shodan continuously scans the entire IPv4 address space collecting banner information from services running on open ports including HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, FTP, SMTP, SIP, RTSP, Telnet, and dozens more. Unlike Google which indexes web content, Shodan indexes the devices and services themselves — revealing exposed webcams, industrial control systems, databases, routers, servers, and IoT devices. Security professionals use Shodan for attack surface discovery, finding exposed assets belonging to their organization before attackers do. Shodan provides powerful search filters for country, city, organization, operating system, port, product, and vulnerability (CVE). Shodan Monitor provides continuous monitoring of your internet-facing assets with alerts when new services are exposed or vulnerabilities are detected. The Shodan API enables programmatic access for integration with security tools and automation workflows. Shodan Membership costs a one-time payment of $49 for unlimited searches and basic API access. Small Business plans start at $359 per month for continuous monitoring.
